How We Tested?

In order to quantify noise, we utilised a calibrated decibel metre app. To deliver air, we checked airflow at different points within the room.

With that said, this fan lags behind in the field of the anti-dust technology. During our testing weeks, the aluminium blades collected dust at the same rate as traditional fans. Even the manufacturer themselves admit that the anti-dust technology should be improved.

The fan noise level is moderate. It is fairly steady in low hum and even though it is approximately 53-55 dB at the point of the ground, it decreases to approximately 43-45 dB at the 10 feet distance. Therefore, the sound will not be so much of an issue when it is operating in a different room.

The aluminium blades make it look high-end, modern, and fit well with modern interior. The gloss painted finish is long lasting and durable. It has 6 levels of speed including boost mode that gives it maximum flexibility. The Smart IR Remote has speed adjustment, timer and sleep mode.

Moving to the build quality, it is of high quality and with rigorous tests, the failure rates are lowest in the industry. The aluminium construction is strong and the painted finish does not fade away with time. But, aluminium blades are a little bit more subject to imbalance than ABS blades, unless they are installed properly. This may cause a slight wobble hence increasing noise. Noise performance was excellent across the board for every ceiling fan on this list. The primary criteria we focused on when choosing devices were the decibel levels during operation and consistency across speeds.

We test noise performance using a 2-hour continuous operation test that measures the fan’s acoustic signature. In addition, we measure vibration and wobbling during this time, ensuring all operational modes are tested.

Across the board, every ceiling fan on this list maintained noise levels below 60 dB at maximum speed. In addition, our vibration sensors detected no wobbling or vibration in any BLDC model. Please note, our sound meter measures noise levels with 0.1 dB resolution. The worst performer of this group was the Orient Electric Aeroquiet at 60 dB maximum. However, the Aeroquiet compensates with virtually silent operation at speeds 1-2. That said, the “worst” is relative, as even 60 dB is significantly quieter than conventional fans.

Many ceiling fans achieved practically perfect results, maintaining sub-55 dB levels throughout testing. The Atomberg Aris Contour achieved the best results at sub-50 dB, making it quieter than most libraries.

Energy Efficiency & Cost Analysis

Each ceiling fan on this list utilizes energy-efficient motors to achieve silent operation. Across the board, all but the Orient Aeroquiet utilize BLDC technology, with most achieving 5-star BEE ratings. However, efficiency varies based on motor design, blade configuration, and operational modes.

Air Delivery Test Comparison

In addition to documenting their coverage levels, we also measure the actual air delivery generated by each device as it operates. We use anemometers placed at standardized distances below the ceiling fan and measure airflow at the lowest and highest speeds.

Surprisingly, the highest air delivery came from the Atomberg Aris Contour with 250 CMM despite being designed for smaller rooms. This is 9.3 CMM higher than the average silent fan we test.

On the other hand, both Atomberg Renesa Halo and Polycab Silencio Mini delivered 235 CMM, which is still excellent for their silent operation levels. The Polycab’s 25 speed settings provide the most precise control over airflow.

How To Select a Silent Ceiling Fan?

Motor Type

The first and foremost thing that you have to consider when selecting a silent ceiling fan is the motor type.

The most efficient and silent motor fan is a BLDC motor fan. They use 35-45 watts as opposed to 70-80 watts used by the conventional induction motor fans. They are cooler, they have a longer life and they make much less noise. However, they are costlier in the short run. They also need a remote control/app to regulate speed since the conventional wall-mounted regulators cannot be used.

When you have a remote only ceiling fan, you are not making the most of the technology that exists today. The intelligent ceiling fan can be operated using a mobile application, voice assistants such as Alexa and Google Home, and even monitor your energy use. However, one should evaluate the necessity of these features. The majority of options include a remote control. Other intelligent capabilities that you are provided with include IoT connectivity, app control, voice commands, scheduling, multi-fan pairing and energy monitoring. Therefore, you should make sure that you select fans that have features that you will actually use and not spend more money on features that you will never use.

Blade Material

Blade material influences noise, durability and ease of cleaning.

ABS plastic blades are light, non-corrosive and tend to be less noisy. They are also elastic to withstand small impacts without making permanent bends. They are also easier to clean. However, they are aesthetically inferior to metal blades to some users.

The aluminium blades are smooth and are tough and come in modern finishes. They are however, a little noisier as they are more rigid and they can wobble unless fixed accurately during installation. They also get dusted more easily unless they are coated with a special anti-dust coating.

The warranty coverage among brands is very different. Some of them provide a simple 5-year warranty, whereas others provide 2 or 3 years of warranty with an extra one year of warranty provided online registration. One should verify the coverage of the warranty. There are those warranties that cover the motor during the entire tenure, but other parts are not covered. The service network of the brand is also important. An extended doorstep service network will guarantee faster problem-solving in case you have any problems.

LED Underlight

Certain silent ceiling fans have inbuilt LED underlights which can be used as ambient or night lights. This does not require the use of a separate night lamp and contributes to the beauty of the room. The options usually consist of 3 colour tones- warm, natural and cool- with different intensities. This feature would be a real value addition should you intend to use the fan in a bedroom where a night light would be handy. However, when you do not need it, you can save some money and get a fan without this feature.
